‘Best Dressed’ Business Window Competition Results!

We are pleased to announce that this years joint winners of the ‘Best Dressed’ business window competition have been chosen by Mayor Tony Hunt and Chamber Chair Sharon Blaikie.

A massive congratulations to Spencer Swaffer Antiques and Bagels & Coffee who will both be awarded £100 to donate to a charity of their choice.

Sharon comments “Last year we did the judging during late night shopping, but this year we decided to look around the shop windows when the businesses were closed and the streets emptier. Once again, retailers in Arundel have made a tremendous effort and the town looks quite magical after dusk. There were a number of excellent and inviting window displays which made the decision all the more difficult but well done to the worthy winners!”

Mayor Tony Hunt writes “After dusk Arundel Town Centre is simply magical this Christmas. The Christmas trees and window displays come into their own in Arundel’s characterful streets and this year businesses seem to have taken made an even greater effort to raise our spirits. This made judging the competition very difficult. The Red Lion and the Kings Arms always look enticing in the evening, and even more so in December. Arundel Butchers embodied Christmas, and Jo and Co created a winter wonderland with their use of silver lighting. Butlers has won before and was a strong competitor again. The Tea & Biscuit Club had made novel decorative use of teapots. But in the end the choice it came down to two businesses. Spencer Swaffer Antiques has a dazzling gold display around windows full of stars and is irresistible. Bagel & Coffee has a much small frontage, but the simple design of the window through the use of white lights and the Nutcracker figures (including the mice) seemed to make the very most of the character of their building. Both businesses in very different ways had made Arundel even more special this Christmas, and so I decided to create a joint first prize, and to award each business £100 to donate to the charity of their choice. We are grateful to Nigel Cull for joining us on our walk round Arundel, for photographing the displays and for using his photographer’s eye to spot some of the details of the displays that I might otherwise have missed.”
