Decription

Arundel and Swanbourne Lake Circular is a 3.1 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Arundel, West Sussex, England that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

A circular walk around Arundel. One stile, not suitable for bikes.

Getting to the start point
From the roundabout on the A27 take the A284 London Road. A short way up turn sharp right and then left into Arundel Park (opposite first houses on your right). Drive up and park on the right just before the Park entrance gates.

Enter Arundel Park and past Hiorne Tower
Enter through the Park gates and walk along the tarmac road for approx 300m then turn right in front of Hiorne Tower across the grass to the old cinder gallops where you will see a public footpath sign. Follow this path down through the trees and you will come to a gate on the left with a stile. Climb over the stile and follow the chalk path descending gradually into the valley.

Descend down into the valley
Follow the chalk path down through the trees and then out into the open. Below is the end of Swanbourne lake and to the north is a view of the valley. Carry on down this path to the bottom of the valley and turn right along the path heading back towards the lake.

Walk to the lake
Keep walking along the path and through the entrance gate. After the gate keep on straight with the lake on your right.

Walk along lake to Mill Road
Continue along the footpath with the lake on your right. You will arrive at Swanbourne Lodge cafe and public toilets on your left. Exit through the gates onto Mill Road.

Walk along Mill Road into the centre of Arundel
Continue along Mill Road. You will pass the childrens playground and putting green on your left, and the Castle on your right.

Walk up the High Street to Tarrant Street
When you get to the mini roundabout at the end of Mill Road Cross straight over and swing around to the right. Walk past the Swan public house and hotel on your left and up to Tarrant Street.

Walk along Tarrant Street to the Kings Arms pub
Turn left and walk along Tarrant Street which is full of independent shops, galleries and cafes. Continue to the Kings Arms pub and turn right up Kings Arms Hill.

Walk up Kings Arms Hill
Walk up Kings Arms Hill and at the top turn left onto Maltravers Street.

Walk along Maltravers Street and up Park Place
Continue along Maltravers Street until opposite Park Place. Cross the road and head up Park Place.

Turn onto London Road and back to the start point
At the end of Park Place turn left onto London Road and walk past the school. Cross over London Road and continue until you reach the entrance into Arundel Park on your right.
