Digby Fine English has a new Tasting Room

If you’re a lover of English sparkling wine (and who isn’t?), then Digby Fine English in Arundel is worth a visit to its newly refreshed Wine Bar & Tasting Room in the heart of our historic town.

Located at 55–57 High Street, the elegant space plays host to Digby’s distinctive English fizz experience, described as ‘the UK’s first high-street cellar door’. Housed within a Grade II listed townhouse, the tasting room offers visitors the chance to discover the character of English sparkling wine in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Rather than simply being a place to pick up a bottle of something sparkling, the refreshed venue has been designed as an informative and tempting experience. Guests can book guided tastings, enjoy a glass of Digby’s sparkling wine, or settle in for a more leisurely drink before or after exploring the charms of Arundel. The expanded drinks menu includes Digby’s award-winning sparkling wines alongside selected still wines and a range of seasonal cocktails.

For those wanting to explore the range, the Digby Discovery Flight provides an introduction to three of the house’s sparkling wines: Non-Vintage Brut, 2014 Vintage Reserve, and Leander Pink. Visitors can also upgrade their tasting to include two more wines: the 2018 Vintage Rosé Brut and 2013 Blanc de Blancs Brut.

The food is deliberately informal, with a selection of snacks and sharing options served alongside the wine. A local cheese grazing board, olives, smoked almonds, salted cashews, and pretzels all make it very easy for a tasting to turn into a relaxed afternoon or early evening stop.

The Arundel location also reflects Digby’s broader approach to English wine. Founded by Trevor Clough and Jason Humphries, the blending house brings together grapes from carefully selected vineyards across southern England. Its wines draw on fruit from Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, and Dorset, allowing Digby to create blends that reflect the diversity of English terroir rather than the character of a single vineyard.

Arundel itself is an ideal setting for the experience with its castle, independent shops, historic streets, and restaurants providing plenty to explore before or after a visit. The town is within easy walking distance of Arundel station, with direct trains from London Victoria taking around 87 minutes, making it a great option for a day trip from the capital.

For visitors who fall in love with a particular bottle, Digby doubles as a retail shop for guests to take home their favourite wines. The space is also available for private events; the main tasting room is suitable for celebrations and gatherings of around 30 people, while the smaller Members’ Room can accommodate more intimate occasions.

With its combination of English sparkling wine, historic surroundings, and a relaxed wine-bar atmosphere, Digby’s refreshed Arundel Tasting Room offers another great reason to put English wine at the centre of a Sussex day out.
