The castle and its surrounding gardens attract visitors to the town throughout the year. With a stunning blend of history, beauty, and horticultural excellence, they’re both must-visit destinations for garden enthusiasts and history lovers, regardless of the season.
Set across 38 acres of gardens and landscape, every corner of Arundel Castle Gardens tells a story, whether it’s the vibrant colours of the seasonal blooms or hidden pathways for visitors to explore. The gardens include a variety of distinct areas, from the meticulously designed formal gardens to the enchanting walled garden, each showcasing the artistry and dedication of the horticulturists who maintain them. In addition to the garden’s obvious aesthetic appeal, the garden team has introduced sustainable practices to protect and enhance the ecological health of the garden and the surrounding area. Creating not only glorious displays and a beautiful setting, but also a vital green space that plays a role in promoting biodiversity and supporting local wildlife.
The Historic England Garden of the Year awards include eight shortlisted gardens, each one unique in its own way. A celebration of the history, heritage, and tireless dedication of the teams who care for them, Arundel Castle Gardens proudly sits alongside some of England’s most iconic landmarks, as well as lesser-known hidden gems. Many of the gardens included in the shortlist have also been recognised for their commitment to sustainable practices and biodiversity projects that enrich both nature and community.
